Consultancy in neurology combined with a clinical professorship in neurology with special focus on dementia disorders

A clinical position as consultant of neurology at the Department of Neurology at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet is open for appointment from as soon as possible.



The position is combined with a 10-year externally funded position as clinical professor of neurology with special focus on dementia disorders at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.



It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

About the department The Department of Neurology at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet serves patients with neurological diseases from the Copenhagen Area, and from other parts of Denmark, as well as the Faroe Islands and Greenland, at two sites: Rigshospitalet-Glostrup (Valdemar Hansens Vej) and Rigshospitalet-Blegdamsvej in Copenhagen.

​The department has in-patient wards for critical care neurology, stroke (offering thrombolysis and endovascular treatment) and multidisciplinary neurorehabilitation (in collaboration with Department of Neurorehabilitation). We have specialized out-patient clinics for headache, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, cerebrovascular disorders, dementia, movement disorders, neuromuscular disorders, and general neurology. Certified by the Danish Health Authority, we offer highly specialized treatments within most neurological subspecialties and have access to advanced neuroimaging, clinical neurophysiology, nuclear medicine, and clinical genetics.

The department is the home of several advanced clinical and translational research centres. We provide pre- and postgraduate teaching and training for medical doctors and other health care professionals.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department The consultant will be employed in the Danish Dementia Research Centre, which comprises the Copenhagen Memory Clinic, a research centre and a national centre for information and education on dementia, funded by the Danish Ministry of Health. The Copenhagen Memory Clinic is a secondary and tertiary referral centre responsible for specialised functions in the field of dementia, including complex, rare and neurogenetic disorders. The Danish Dementia Research Centre is responsible for nationwide innovation, development and research projects in the field, which should also link primary care with hospital-based memory clinics. The consultant will be expected to see patients in the outpatient clinic for diagnosis, counselling and treatment, to lead multidisciplinary conferences, and to contribute to strengthening collaboration with primary care as well as with other specialized departments. The consultant will be expected to contribute to the clinical and scientific development of the neurological subspecialty dementia and to the continuous advancement of excellent and robust collaborations with other specialized departments at the hospital and at the regional and national level. The consultant is expected to contribute to national and international post-graduate teaching of medical doctors, clinical staff and other health care providers and to contribute to administrative and organizational tasks in the department. The consultant will report to the head of department and to the director of the Danish Dementia Research Center.

Research and teaching With the new position as consultant in neurology and clinical professor of neurology with special focus on dementia disorders, the Department of Neurology and the Danish Dementia Research Centre wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching in the field of dementia.



Qualifications Applicants must be board-certified specialist in neurology.



Conditions In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital -Rigshospitalet.



Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.



As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of department of neurology and the chair of the Danish Dementia Research Centre.
