The Ploug-group at the Finsen Laboratory is looking for a highly motivated postdoc to join a project on acidic disordered proteins and their impacts on heparin-binding proteins. The postdoc position is a fulltime limited initially for 2 years, starting 1 September 2023 or soon thereafter.
This is a highly interdisciplinary project between four research institutions with expertise in bioinformatics, mass spectrometry, NMR, and biochemistry/cell biology. The Finsen Laboratory hosts six research groups and is located in the Copenhagen Biocenter with an affiliation to Copenhagen University Hospital (Rigshospitalet) as well as BRIC at the University of Copenhagen.
Information on the Ploug-group can be found at:
www.bric.ku.dk/research-groups/Research/ploug_group/
Our research
The Ploug-group focuses on the biochemical and biophysical characterization of disease-relevant proteins and their ligands. We provide a detailed understanding of how a given pathway maintains homeostasis in normal physiology and why certain aberrations—such as missense mutations and natural polymorphisms—cause dysregulation resulting in pathophysiology. To achieve these goals we have state-of-the-art facilities for protein production and analytical tools such as SPR, MST, nano-DSF, MALDI-TOF/TOF MS, CD, and SEC-MALS for biochemical characterization.
Your job
The successful applicant will focus on characterizing the interplay between disordered acidic proteins and the extracellular matrix. Initial studies on proteins involved in intravascular lipolysis (GPIHBP1 and LPL) will be used to define further studies on disordered acidic proteins selected by bioinformatics.
Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:
- You have a PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology or similar
- You are highly experienced in protein expression and purification
- You are highly experienced in one or more of the following techniques: eukaryote cell culture, co-IP for mass spectrometry identification, western blot, surface plasmon resonance, working with mouse models.
- Prior publication in internationally recognized journals to which you have contributed significantly
- Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
- Excellent English skills, both written and spoken
- A FELASA accredited ABD certificate is an advantage
The employment is at BRIC, University of Copenhagen. BRIC is located in the Biocenter, close to the centre of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment.
